Hi All!

I am starting this blog as a passion project for me. I hope it can be a place where I document my successes, failures, and most importantly, lessons learned as my family embarks on our homeschool journey. I never dreamed I would be here as a new entrepreneur, blog writer, and future podcast host. 12 years ago, I graduated college and was climbing the corporate ladder for a large financial services company and I thought I was living the dream. But life has a funny way of just throwing crazy curve balls. Today, I am a mom to 3 young boys (1, 3 and my oldest just turned 5 in May!) and I left that corporate job in February to pursue something so much more fulfilling.

About 2 years ago, when we only had 2 boys, I was tired of sending them to daycare from 8-5 every day. I was burned out from a high stress job and by the end of the day, my family wasn’t getting the best of me. A few moms I followed on Instagram started homeschooling and I was enjoying following them on their early journey. I asked my husband, “what do you think about homeschooling?” I am not sure how I expected him to react to my question, but I was surprised by how positive and supportive he was of the idea. It turned out it had been on his mind as well. We were coming at the problem from different angles and spent hours discussing the possibility of homeschooling. My husband and I weren’t homeschooled growing up and I always figured that when the time came, my kids would also go to traditional schools. This initial conversation about homeschool has turned my life upside down in the most amazing way. There were so many reasons that I started to think homeschooling could be right for our family, I listed a few here:

Reason 1: We move, A LOT! My husband’s job requires us to move every 2-3 years. I love that we get to experience new cities, but it has taken us far from our families. Right now, while we have no school commitments, I love that I can spontaneously book a flight to visit their grandparents in San Diego or Las Vegas and stay for as long as I want with the kiddos. You don’t get that when you are in traditional school!

Reason 2: Since we do move a lot and our lives are so chaotic, I wanted to give our children at least some consistency about school. I don’t think it’s fair to ask my boys to be the “new kids” every 2 years at a new school.

Reason 3: I love that homeschooling isn’t a “one size fits all.” I can already see the unique differences in each of my boys’ personalities and I love that you can tailor their days based on what is best for them. That kind of flexibility is everything! If you’re having an off day (we all have those), take a day of rest and we can make it up over the weekend.

Reason 4: I want my boys to find something they are wildly passionate about and go all-in. For me, that was dance. I was captain of the high school dance team, danced competitively with a studio, and joined a church dance group. It consumed me and I LOVED it. I would be at school all day and dance all afternoon. I never really had a lot of time to be with my family during the week. I want my boys to find something they love and have TIME for their family.

Did any of my reasons for wanting to homeschool resonate with you? I’m just beginning this journey, and I am excited to see where it leads, maybe you are too! I want this platform to be an outlet as I learn and grow as a small business owner and homeschool mom.

And if you made it all the way to the end, thanks for being here! Your support means everything. If you ever have any questions, I am always a message away at contact@basecamped.com
